Pete Defty: The Outlaw Project

Inspired by the portraits of Native American tribes made by photographer Edward S Curtis in the early 1900s, The Outlaw Project began in 2011. The aim of the project mirrors the work of Curtis in some ways, recording faces from modern tribes and documenting stories to give future generations an understanding of their own history.

Originally from the North East of England, photographer Pete Defty worked freelance before joining a commercial advertising studio in Newcastle. He is now based at Dean Clough, where he shoots portraits, architecture, interiors and still life, as well as working on many personal projects.
