This tribute to the impact of rap on an alienated generation was curated by Marcus Jack and Sean Helliwell and boasts an original soundtrack by Leeds rapper, ExP. It all began with Marcus Jack’s 18 portraits of ‘the kings and queens of rap’ (from Ghostface Killah to Mike Skinner) duly framed in bling and tagged in deference to Hip-Hop street art… and grew into a research project with a unique, local emphasis. As the, erm, 50 year old Marcus Jack says: “I’m not the only ‘Mature B-Boy’ in the world and I know there are others who struggle with this. But you don’t get to pick and choose what matters to you – and to me, this is the culture that matters”.
